What we treat and how: pick a step
Periodontitis
Inflammation spreads from the gum deeper down and destroys the ligaments and bone around the root. It can go unnoticed for years.
Professional cleaning removes the deposits above the gum line, revealing the real extent of the damage.
Closed curettage clears the pockets of tartar below the gum line and granulation tissue, then they are treated with medication.
If needed, the dentist selectively grinds or splints loose teeth to redistribute the pressure.
Lost bone cannot be brought back, but the process can be stopped. Checkups with repeat cleaning are usually every 3–6 months.
Deposits above the gum line
Plaque and tartar at the edge of the gums.
Tartar below the gum line
Builds up in the pocket, where a toothbrush cannot reach.
Periodontal pocket
Forms between the tooth and the gum when the ligaments break down.
Inflamed gums
Bleed for months and do not improve even with better brushing.
Bone
Breaks down around the root. The dentist assesses its level on a panoramic X-ray.
Tooth surface
Deposits above the gum line have been removed.
Tartar below the gum line
Now the real extent of the damage is visible.
Cleaning instrument
Removes deposits above the edge of the gums.
Curette
Clears the pocket of tartar below the gum line and granulation tissue.
Root
Tartar below the gum line has been removed.
Pocket wall
Granulation tissue removed, the pocket is treated with medication.
Loose tooth
Loose teeth are one of the signs of periodontitis.
Grinding
Selective grinding redistributes the pressure. Splinting is the other option.
Follow-up measurement
Checkups with repeat cleaning, usually every 3–6 months.
Gums
The source of inflammation is gone, the pockets are smaller.
Bone
Lost bone cannot be brought back, but the process can be stopped.
Periodontitis treatment means professional cleaning, closed curettage of the periodontal pockets with medication, load correction when needed and maintenance therapy, so that the tissue around the tooth stops breaking down.

Lost bone cannot be restored, which is why periodontitis is considered a chronic condition. But it can be brought into a stable phase: the inflammation is removed, the pockets become shallower and further tissue loss stops. With a regular schedule of maintenance visits, the teeth last for years.
Professional cleaning removes deposits above the gums and slightly below the gum line. Curettage cleans the pocket to its full depth, including the root surface and granulation tissue. Without this step the inflammation persists, even if the teeth look clean.
The procedure is done under local anesthesia. For a few days afterward the teeth may be sensitive and the gums may feel uncomfortable. This is a normal reaction of the tissue to cleaning, and it gradually goes away.
Only once the condition is stable. With active inflammation, the tissue around an implant is affected the same way as around your own teeth, and the implant may fail to integrate. Periodontitis is treated first, then implants are planned.
This is an expected effect, not a complication. Before treatment, swollen gums covered the exposed parts of the roots. Once the inflammation is gone, the tissue becomes firmer and shrinks in volume, so you see the real level of your gums.
Ultrasonic and other device-based treatment is used with caution during pregnancy, with a pacemaker, and with severe uncontrolled blood disorders or cancer. In these cases the dentist chooses an individual approach or coordinates the timing with your specialist.

I had a professional teeth cleaning with Dr. Olena Vitaliivna and was very pleased! The doctor was extremely attentive and caring, kept asking how I was feeling throughout the procedure and worked very gently. The procedure was quick and comfortable, and the result exceeded my expectations — my teeth are perfectly clean and even look whiter. I also want to thank the administrator for her friendliness and attention. She advised me on mouthwashes and recommended a treatment product that I could buy right there at the dental office, which was very convenient. I sincerely recommend this dental practice!
A very conveniently located dental office🤩 easy to get to, the administrator Olha is friendly, and they cleaned my teeth very professionally👍😍 thank you
I had my teeth cleaned at this dental office and was absolutely delighted. The procedure was quick, gentle and without any discomfort. My teeth are now smooth and clean, and the doctor also gave useful advice on care at home. Thank you for the service!
The most comfortable tartar removal I've ever had. The doctor also told me about problem areas worth paying attention to. A big plus is that they don't invent problems you don't have. I want to come back again.

We had an appointment with Dr. Olesia Volodymyrivna. The doctor carefully examined my two children and found gum inflammation in my son; a baby tooth needed to be removed. And the child had no complaints at all. We're very grateful that the doctor noticed the bad tooth in time!
I really liked this dental office. I came as an emergency (I urgently needed help on a Sunday evening). They booked me quickly and with understanding of the situation. A tooth with a complicated history (gum surgery, long treatment and prosthetics), and all of it was done in…

Between a healthy gum and the tooth there is a groove up to 3 mm deep. With periodontitis the ligaments break down and the groove turns into a pocket 4 mm deep or more. A toothbrush cannot reach it, and tartar attaches directly to the root.
It becomes a vicious circle: bacteria keep the inflammation going, and the inflammation deepens the pocket. The only way to break it is cleaning with instruments, after which the gum fits tightly against the tooth again.
Periodontitis does not hurt for years, yet it is the main reason adults lose teeth. All a person notices is bleeding that does not stop for months, exposed tooth necks or gaps between the teeth that were not there before.
The outcome of treatment depends directly on the stage at which you come in. Lost bone cannot be brought back, so the sooner the dentist removes the source of inflammation, the more of the support of your teeth can be saved.
The cost depends on the number of affected teeth and the depth of the pockets. Curettage is priced per tooth: you pay only for the teeth that really need it, so a localized problem costs much less than a generalized one. Treatment usually takes several visits, and each step is paid for separately.
If most of your teeth need treatment, you can pay in installments through PrivatBank. Periodontal treatment is often covered by voluntary health insurance plans; check the coverage with your insurance company.
Periodontitis requires maintenance visits several times a year, so it is worth choosing the location closest to your home or work.
