How are Damon braces different from classic braces?
In Damon braces, the archwire is not tied in with elastics: a built-in door holds it in the slot. This reduces friction, makes the braces easier to get used to, and means fewer visits to the orthodontist.
How often do I need to see the orthodontist with Damon braces?
Every 6–8 weeks. Classic braces need adjusting more often, roughly once a month.
Metal Damon Q or ceramic Damon Clear: which should I choose?
Both systems work the same way. Metal Damon Q brackets are more compact and sturdier; ceramic Damon Clear brackets are clear and almost invisible on the teeth.
Can I avoid tooth extractions with Damon braces?
Damon systems use light forces and help create room for crowded teeth. In most cases this makes it possible to avoid removing premolars. The orthodontist decides whether that is possible in your case after diagnostics.
When are retainers placed after Damon braces come off?
A fixed retainer is bonded to the inside of the teeth on the day the braces come off. A clear night tray is also made to stabilize the result.
