An onlay is placed when the chewing surface is 30–60% damaged or an old large filling needs replacing.
The dentist removes the decayed tissue and gently shapes a seat for the onlay.
An intraoral scanner takes an optical 3D impression.
The onlay is milled or pressed from an IPS e.max lithium disilicate block; this takes 5–10 days. In the meantime you wear a temporary protective onlay.
The dentist checks the fit, your bite and the shade, then bonds the onlay with light-cured adhesive cement.

How is an E-max onlay different from a large filling?
A large filling shrinks as it hardens. That leads to micro-gaps, recurrent decay and broken walls. An onlay is made in the lab, so it does not change size.
How is an onlay different from a crown?
For a crown, the tooth is ground down on all sides by 1.5–2 mm, often with the nerve removed. An onlay replaces only the missing part, while the healthy walls and the pulp are preserved.
How long does it take to make the onlay?
5 to 10 days on average. During that time you wear a temporary protective onlay.
Can an onlay be placed on a root-canal-treated tooth?
Yes, if enough of the tooth's own walls remain. An onlay spreads the chewing load and protects a brittle tooth from fracturing.
Why is the onlay bonded under a rubber dam?
A rubber dam isolates the tooth from moisture and breath. That way the cement bonds better to the enamel.
How long does an E-max onlay last?

My husband and I take care of our teeth all the time. We were treated at a German dental practice, then a Turkish one, so we have something to compare with. We came to Eurozet with a difficult situation: after the Turkish doctors, the implants weren't taking, and they had to clean twice because small fragments were left after poorly cleaned sites from tooth extractions. They fixed it, cleaned it, the implants took, and only the final touch is left — the crowns. My husband damaged his upper teeth with an angle grinder, and doctors at three other practices didn't know what to do; here they did everything properly, and for half a year now he has been eating perfectly well. Who an E-max onlay is for
An onlay is placed when roughly 30–60% of the chewing surface of a tooth is damaged but the walls are still strong. It is also a good option for worn-down teeth, when the natural height of the bite needs to be restored. The main benefit for you: the tooth is not ground down for a full crown, and in most cases the pulp stays alive. People also choose an onlay when they want a rebuilt back tooth that is strong and looks natural.
Why you should not put off replacing a large filling
A large filling shrinks as it hardens, and over the years its edge fits worse and worse. Bacteria get into the gaps, recurrent decay develops under the filling, and the thin walls of the tooth can break off. The longer this goes on, the less tooth is left, and a crown may be needed instead of an onlay. If you have an old large filling that no longer fits well, it is worth showing the tooth to a prosthodontist while it can still be rebuilt with an onlay.
What determines the price of an E-max onlay
The price on the price list is fixed and covers tooth preparation, 3D scanning, making the onlay in the dental lab and adhesive bonding. The final amount, including any treatment that may be needed, is fixed in your plan before preparation begins. E-max onlays are placed at all three Eurozet locations. If the left bank is more convenient: 14B Kniazhyi Zaton St in Pozniaky, near Osokorky metro station. All three are open every day from 9:00 to 21:00. While the onlay is being made in the lab, a temporary one stays on the tooth, so you can schedule the second visit at your convenience.
