Prevention starts as soon as the first teeth come in. Air Flow is usually recommended from age 3–4, when the child can sit calmly in the chair and follow the dentist's simple requests.
Does Air Flow harm a child's enamel?
For children we use fine glycine- or erythritol-based powders. They have no sharp edges and gently clean the tooth surface without leaving micro-scratches.
How often does a child need a professional cleaning?
Once every 6 months. For children with braces or a high risk of cavities, the dentist may recommend cleaning more often.
What does the child feel during the cleaning?
The mix of water, air and powder is delivered under controlled pressure. Usually the child feels only a light stream of water in the mouth.
Why apply a plaque disclosing agent?
It is a safe solution that stains the plaque. The dentist sees every problem area, and the child and parents can judge how well they brush at home.
Why is it important to have plaque removed by a dentist?
