Why is a clasp denture better than an acrylic one?
The metal framework makes a smaller base possible: the palate stays open, so your speech and sense of taste hardly change, and you get used to it faster. Part of the load goes to your own teeth rather than only to the gums, which slows down bone loss.
Are the attachments of a clasp denture visible?
It depends on the type of attachment. Clasps are metal hooks that can show in a wide smile, so they are usually placed on the back teeth. Precision attachments are hidden inside the denture, but they cost more and require crowns on the supporting teeth.
Do I need to take the clasp denture out at night?
You do not have to take it out for the whole night. But every evening it should come out for cleaning: brush it, rinse it and give the gum tissue a rest. In the first few weeks the dentist may advise you to keep the denture in at night so that you get used to it faster.
How long does a clasp denture last?
The metal framework is designed to last 5–10 years. The plastic part with the artificial teeth wears over time and may need replacing sooner. A lot depends on the condition of the supporting teeth, regular checkups and oral hygiene.
What if a supporting tooth has to be extracted?
In many cases the denture can be modified in the lab: an artificial tooth is added and the attachment layout is changed. It depends on where the support was. Do not wear the denture without the supporting tooth: the load will be distributed incorrectly and may damage other teeth.

If a regular removable denture feels bulky and you are not considering implants for now, a clasp denture can be a good compromise. It does not cover the palate, so it suits people who struggle to get used to plate dentures or have a strong gag reflex. The main condition is enough of your own teeth with strong roots for the denture to rest on. The dentist assesses this at the first visit, from an exam and an X-ray.
Why it matters not to overload the supporting teeth
The supporting teeth take on part of the chewing pressure, and how long they last depends on the load being distributed correctly. If it is calculated inaccurately, the supports gradually loosen and the denture starts to rock. That is why, before making the denture, the dentist assesses the roots on an X-ray and, if needed, first treats the teeth or crowns them. It is a longer road, but it is what decides whether the denture will last for years.
What the cost of a clasp denture depends on
The price depends on the type of attachment and the amount of preparation. A denture with clasps costs less than one with precision attachments. If the supporting teeth need crowns, that work is priced separately. The dentist gives you the exact amount after diagnostics, before the work goes to the lab. The preparation, the framework and the fitting can be paid for stage by stage or in installments through PrivatBank.
